Even if from 1st of November starts official winter closing of hiking paths, in Tatras is still nice autumn weather. Paths will be still open till mountain cottages, except of cottage Rysy. Closed will be paths, which are ending on the top of mountain peaks except Slavkovsky stit, which is possible to visit in other period of the year according to Tatras national park orders.
During winter season is closed also part from Skalnate pleso via Velka Svistovka to Cottage on Zelene pleso.
For hikers, who decide to continue hiking over the height 1800 m.a.s.l., Mountain Rescue Service is issues alerts, which you can find on their website. It is necessary to use winter gear, because on this part of the mountains will be already snow. Do not forget, that sunset it’s already at 5.00 pm. Evaluate your strenght and let’s go to mountains!
On hiking paths open during the whole year, during snow season National forest TANAP put winter bar marking. Pats will be for tourists open again from 15th of june.
The reason of seasonal closing is mainly protection of rare kinds of animal, which are living in mountains and of course protection of nature. In period of 21st of December till 15th of april have free access to mountains only organized skialpinists under condition, that for skiing are good snow conditions.
